Day 192 - Yes?

I decided to go Pop Art Silhouette on todays photo. It is an idea I have had in my back pocket for a while since I went to an arts fair in Austin with Catherine. I am thinking of continuing on with this style for a few other photos, but not necessarily of myself.

So what do you think? Do you like this style or not? Let me know.

Lightning Storm

So Troy and myself left the gym just about an hour ago and noticed some epic storm clouds just ahead of my car. So of course, I took Troy home and grabbed my gear to start shooting. It as probably one of the coolest lightning storms I have seen in a long time. Even without my gear it would have been a site to see. Here are a few of my favorites from the many I took.

Day 187 - Beach... CANONBALL!

Went on a photowalk with Jena today, down in Galveston. While there we stopped by the beach to get in the water for a bit. I would also like to mention that "Canonball" is spelled that way on purpose. It is a play on words since I shoot with a Canon 40D and the fact that I am doing a cannonball in the water. I would like to thank Jena for being my Wireless Trigger for this photo. One of those that you cant do with just a 10 second timer, no matter how fast you are.

Anywho, took a few good shots along the photowalk and I will be posting them very shortly.

Day 184 - The Summer Solstice

Today is the first day of summer and by how hot it was outside when I took this shot I will totally agree. Actually, I would not say it was hot, more humid. When I got back from riding around I checked the temperature, it was only 87. The humidity actually knocked that up a good 10 degree's to the point it felt like it was midday, even though I was under this shady tree. I really wanted to wait until the last bit of sun was going down to take this shot, just to see how late it would get. It was just about 8:30 when I took this shot and I think it turned out well.

Oh, I also got a Canon 430EX II for my birthday. An external flash is something that I have had my eye on for quite some time. So today I took it out with me to give it a go for the first time. This means I finally get to add strobist information to my post!

Camera: Canon 40D | 17-85mm f/4.0 | 17mm @ f/8.0 | ISO 200 | 1/25 sec

Strobist Info: Canon 430EX II @ 1/2 power | mounted on camera | 10ft from subject

Day 183 - Happy Fathers Day

Today's photo goes out to all the fathers in the world. This one was interesting, because I had to find a way to incorporate my father in with a self portrait of myself. So if you look very closely, you can actually see myself in the reflection of his glasses as well as my camera and part of the rest of my family. Tomorrow is Monday and that means back to the grind of the work week, hopefully I can pull off some interesting photos.

Day 182 - 24th Birthday (NOM NOM NOM)

Short write up today, but basically today was my birthday and the cake that I am holding was a very special treat provided by Catherine. You may recognize it from previous photo's, but either way I would like to thank everybody who made it special and especially Catherine for assisting me with this photo.

Day 181 - USA vs Slovenia vs Rookie Referee

I really cant think of any other way to visually represent how I feel about the USA game vs Slovenia today, well other than a huge face palm. The US played like crap the first half and should never let themselves go into the half down 2 to nil. I never like to blame officials for a game's outcome, because if a team truly was better during that game the officials would have no say in the final outcome. Oh well, no need fretting over a game that is over. All the US can do now is go into the Algeria game with guns blazing and never hold back. Its the last shot we have at getting into the 16.

Day 180 - Well Played Sir...

This is sort of a homage to my friend Matt's younger brother. He had created a, what I hope was a joke, video about a card game known as Yu-Gi-Oh! In one part of the scene he gets beat in the game, makes a funny face and says..."Well played sir..." Ever since then he has been given a hard time about it, mostly from me and my own younger brother. The only difference is I was beaten in a game of chess rather than some child's card game.

Day 179 - But, I'm Le Tired

SO TAKE A NAP!

Good ol' fashion flash cartoons, always good for a joke and/or picture theme. Technically Wednesday's are my work wee Friday and counting the two to three hour round trip it takes me to get to work, I usually pull 40 hours within these three days. So far it has been great, I have learned a lot about the professional world of advertising and printing, but when my weeks over I still feel exhausted. Hopefully it is just an adjustment period and I will be over it within the next few weeks.

This picture reminded me of how often I have not been using my 50mm f/1.4 lately. I love the bokeh your able to get with a lens like this. I need to make it a goal to use it more often, like I used to.

Day 173 - USA vs England

Well, today the United States started their 2010 World Cup by playing our rival across the "pond" England. It was a rough start, with England getting a 1 to 0 lead within the fourth minute of the game. I am not going to lie, that early goal was very disappointing to me and frustrated me quite a bit. Luckily we were able to equalize it before the half and hold England off the rest of the game.

Quite a few people have asked me how I feel with a draw and honestly I think its great for USA going into the next two games. England is a fantastic football club and we were able to hold them off for 86 minutes after their first goal. It will help with momentum going into our next game on Friday.

For this photo, it is actually a montage of two pictures I put together using Photoshop. I had originally wanted to use my face for this and make it look like it had been painted, but I wasn't able to get a shot of myself to use for that. So instead I snapped a quick shot of my hand giving a thumbs up and map the American flag with it to help give the impression of it being painted on. Enjoy!

Holga Fisheye in Austin

I recently acquired a fisheye for my Holga 120N from Catherine's grandmother, as a thank you gift for a slideshow I created for their wedding anniversary. As soon as I got it I could not wait to get out and shoot with it. I have seen photo's that Jena has produced with her lil orange fisheye and they are always fun to look at.

That day we ended up going to Austin's Botanical Gardens and I knew it would produce some great photo's with it. Here are the three that were on the roll of film I just developed. I can not wait until I finish the next few pictures on my current roll so I can see the rest.

Day 171 - Thirsty?

This self portrait thing isn't so bad, here I am day 3 and still going strong. I already have many ideas of whats to come in the next few days. I can safely say that you can go ahead and assume one or two in the next week will be World Cup related, thats for sure.

The only thing I do not like about this shot is that my refrigerator is neither deep enough and my lens is not wide enough. I really wish I was capable of capturing more of the fridge than just what you see, but oh well, equipment doesn't make the photo, I do.

Day 170 - The Blur

Day 2 of my self portrait for a month and this time I definitely made time to go out and have some fun. It was not very easy to do, since I have no wireless trigger, I had to set it on auto fire and run a way while it was constantly shooting. This means I have 6-10 actual pictures of myself while the other 200 or so are of the street behind me. Since it was getting dark out, I had to resolve to shooting at a lower shutter speed. At first I thought I wanted it to be crisp, but when I zoomed in on the LCD I saw a little motion blur and thought it was perfect.

Well, I hope your enjoying my 2nd picture of myself and don't forget to catch the World Cup opening ceremonies tomorrow. Should be awesome!

Day 168 - Holgamill

Well, just about a week worth of Holgas and I am going to go back to my Canon tomorrow. I actually started an internship today, so the time that will be alloted to that is very unknown. The plan is to actually start a month of nothing but self portraits. That will be particularly difficult for me since it is something that I do not do very often.

I hope you have enjoyed the Holga's and if you have any good ideas of what can be done as a self portrait let me know!

Day 165 - Galveston Silhouette

Only 200 days left in this 365 and even though I am not even at the half way point yet, it still seems to be flying by fast.

To continue on with my Holga series, this shot was taken in Galveston while I was riding around with Catherine. For the most part I was just trying to waste the last two shots so I could get it developed, but this shot came out pretty cool. Even though it was a high ISO film, it still wasn't fast enough to capture any color in the trees, but I am always a sucker for a cool silhouette.

Day 164 - San Antonio Nights

Taking a quick break from my Holga's because last night I was in San Antonio with a huge thunder storm coming in. I am really happy with these because, as I think most photographers have, I am able to scratch through one photo on my photography bucket list. A lightning storm.

This is a perfect example of why I carry my camera with me all the time. The lightening was going crazy over our hotel window and I took the opportunity to snap as many lighting shots as I could. Here are four of my favorites from the night.

Day 163 - Double Exposure

As many might know, the Holga 120N is not known to be a very high quality camera. Getting double exposures is something that is very easy to accomplish with this camera, usually when done on purpose. This photo, however, was not meant to be a double exposure, but due to the way the film is rolled and processed through the camera, light was able to contact the roll multiple times in the same location.

This is one of the biggest reasons I wanted a Holga camera, it can produce some of the best mistakes out there.

Day 162 - Teddy & I

The Holga pictures are finally in!! Yay! Well, to start if off I had to use one taken of myself and Teddy. Most of the photographs came out great and I could not be happier with them. Expect more for the next week or so, since I do have 23 of them total, but I know for sure I wont be showing every last one. That will bore people very quickly, but who knows. I might very well dedicate the whole month of June to my Holga photos, it is my blog and my 365 project!

I would personally like to thank Catherine for her help on this shot and being my human tripod.
