Day 222 - Sunset Golf

Day 2 of using nothing but my camera phone. Today...I almost waited to long and actually had to snap this while playing a game of night golf. Right as the sun was starting to set I realized I hadn't taken a photo today, which really made for what I think is a decent photo. I was amazed how well my phone was able to capture the colors in the sky while still giving me a decent silhouette of the palm tree's around me. Until tomorrow...

Day 221 - LG Fisheye

OK, so as many might know, I had to return the Canon 7D today. This means, in a nutshell, that I have no digital camera to work with at the moment....or do I. For the next week I have decided to put technology aside and only use my LG Vu to take all of my photographs. I was actually contacted by Canon today and they gave me all the information I needed to fix my camera. Hopefully I will have it back in a week, fully function-able and ready for more. So until then expect really gritty, ghetto style photo's that will be taken with nothing but the lens attached to my phone...and maybe some accessories like my Holga fisheye that I used today!

Day 220 - 7Ds Last Horrah

Well, tomorrow I must send the 7D back to rentglass.com HQ. It will be a sad day for I have had a great time getting to use this camera. It is also sad because my 40D has yet to be returned to me or had any confirmation that it has been received by Canon. Hopefully something will be heard of it soon.

I wanted to take one last shot of me with the Canon 7D while at the same time still getting to use the 7D. So I did the typical point-n-shoot mirror shot and went into photoshop to flip it back to normal. Farewell my 18 mega pixel friend, maybe one day we will meet again.

Day 219 - Music

Lately I have gotten really into listening to music, kinda how I was back in my first years of college. I don't know if it is because of Pandora.com and its vast array of awesome artists that I have never heard before or if it is just something to entertain me those few hours that I have off after work. I decided to go with this shot because a) it doesn't stop raining in Houston apparently and b) I have not taken a self-portrait shot in a while.

Hmm, apparently someone named Joshua Bouder was one of the people who had rented out this camera before me...or works at RentGlass.com because I just found out his name is embedded into all the photographs that I have taken with the 7D. I need to go fix that.

Day 218 - Daily Commute

You know, no matter how many times I drive past the Heritage Plaza, it never gets old. The other buildings, however, are getting quite old to my eyes. I also never quite understood why I-45 does a loop around then through the city. Why doesn't it just go straight past Minute Maid Park like it appears it will do? Just one of the many thoughts that go through my head during my two hour round trip to work and back.

This shot was one taken with the 7D while stuck in traffic today and I was very happy with the way it turned out. Especially since you really don't have a whole lot of time to aim in that situation.

Day 217 - Frio in HDR

Last shot that you will see for now of the Frio river. This is one that is a HDR that was taken in a spot just before the photo from yesterday. I haven't done to many HDR's lately and I figured that the Frio would be a good opportunity to get another one. This is a 3-shot HDR and one of my favorite parts of this being an HDR image is how calm it makes the water appear. Since I do not have a Neutral Density filter, I am not able to get long exposure style pictures without the aid of HDR. Well, thats all for now, I hope you enjoy!

Day 216 - Frio River

I know so far the images that I have shown you of my Frio river trip have been everything BUT the river...so here is one of my favorite's from this weekend. Taken just at the beginning of what my group calls "the bottom half," just before it bends around the corner near an old tree we love to use for group photographs every year.

This section of the river is never very deep, while most of the river is barley deeper than this, it still shows off just how beautiful the water is. Mostly clear throughout thanks to the natural springs it has feeding towards it.

Day 215 - Frio Nights

Usually nights at the Frio River are my favorite part. This year, however, I was very unlucky to get mostly cloudy skies with a full moon at it's peak in the sky around midnight. So as you might guess it drowned out most of the stars that one would normally be able to see with the naked eye. I was hoping to check off another one of my photography bucket list items during this trip, photographing the Milky Way band. Due to the conditions I was unable to accomplish this task, I guess that one will have to wait for another day.

Anyway, this is the view from the back of our cabin. There were quite a few shots taken this night, all trying to accomplish different things. Some went for star trails, while others just capturing the stars and hoping for that Milky Way band. This shot in particular was the small window I had where no clouds actually affected the shot in a major way. It still gives you an idea of what the sky is capable of on a Frio night.

Day 214 - Fluffy Animal

Left for the Frio today, but had to make an over night pit stop in Austin to pick up Catherine. It is her first year to go to the Frio with the whole group. While there I got to see Teddy and photograph him with my new flash and the 7D I rented. This is one of my favorite of all the shots, it really makes him look like a stuffed animal.

Day 213 - Abilene

Abby has made more than one appearance in this photo journey. Today I sneak-attacked her with my flash and got this shot. I was really surprised it came out this well, especially since it was on manual focus and I did not realize that until afterward. Leave for the Frio River tomorrow, so if updates are delayed, thats why.

Day 212 - Final Hour

Ok, so some may know this, but I am kinda a nerd and today is no exception. The final volume of the Scott Pilgrim saga was released today and I muts say Bryan lee O'malley finished the series off with an excellent final book. I have read it twice already today and I plan on reading it once again before tomorrow is over. Many of you might have heard the name Scott Pilgrim from the soon to be movie that will be released here in just a month or so. The books are awesome and really poke fun at comics, music, and video games while still telling a really catchy story. Off to bed, one more day of work befor eI leave for the Frio!

Day 211 - Table Flower

Another day my siblings want to swim, which means another day of me photographing their house. In their living room they have a very nice coffee table, with a mailbox and this wonderful flower coming out of it. It is amazing how much closer the L lens I am using can focus than my own lens's. It really makes for some great shots.

Day 210 - Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much

Since I have received the 7D for the next few weeks, I decided to not just include photo's of myself and to branch out to any photo that was taken that day.

Today's photo is from my grandparents house. My little brother and sister like to go over there almost every day so they can swim in her pool. They have this old sign just on the outside of their house that is all worn and beat up. I cranked the f-stop down to 2.8 so I could blur out as much of the sign as I could, while still keeping one segment in focus.

Day 209 - Video Practice

Went out to the driving range today. Since the 7D has HD video capabilities, I brought it along to film Matt and myself swing so we could analyze it. We are planning on going out tomorrow morning to play, so we will see if the practice pays off.

Day 208 - Movie in the Park

Went out to Centennial Park today with Jena to see The Blind Side. Quite a bit of fun and after a while the mosquitoes didn't seem to mind me being in their natural habitat either. If your in Friendswood and wanna see a movie they are showing at the park every Friday for the rest of the summer! Go check it out!

Day 207 - Shoot from the Hip

You remember how I said my 40D was broken? Well, to help me ease the pain I rented a Canon 7D and an 18-35mm f/2.8 L from rentglass.com. The 7D is by far the best camera I have ever used and really have not been able to put it down since I received it earlier today. I will be sure to post some of the shots I have taken with it so far.

The 7D is so far superior to my 40D it is not even funny. Not only does it have an ISO that goes up to 6400, shoots up to 8 frames per second, 18 mega pixels, and it even has a level built into the camera! Oh, did I mention it shoots HD VIDEO!?!?! I know I have always said that video on a DSLR was something that never matters to me, but to be honest, it is pretty sweet to have on this camera. I might just have to get one for real...

I have also started to get really good with my 430EX II flash. It has really made me want to go out and start taking more and more portraits of anybody that will let me. So if your in the mood for a cheap photo shoot let me know and I will be more than happy to come shoot it.

Day 205 - Texas Weddings

Well, here it is. My very first public published magazine as a graphic artist. I was given a copy of it today while at work and thought I would let you know to keep a lookout for it if your planning on getting married. It should be hitting news stands soon! Other than that, I am planning on attempting a week long series either tomorrow or within the next month that is dedicated to replicating stills from the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series. I already have one shot planned out and if I can get six more very quickly it will be done.

Day 203 - Going Up?

Final day of the Bridal Extravaganza and I can definitely say it is a very unique experience. Overall, it was a good one that I will walk away having learned more about anything and everything that is related to this show. A good portion of my time, when I wasn't out photographing the event, was in the entrance to Hall B. They have four escalators there that will take you to the 2nd floor and I probably went up and down them to many times to count, in order to get to my 2nd floor room where I took photos for a time lapse.

Even though I got a few laughs from my fellow co-workers and a few of the vendors at the event, I think this photo came out really well. I especially like how it captures my reflections on the side as I sit in between. It was a fun, yet busy, weekend and it's funny to say that my work week has just begun.

Day 202 - Warped Reflection

At the end of the day at the Bridal Extravaganza I was heading to the second floor to grab my bag, and I noticed that the glass bends the reflection of the downtown skyline. I thought it was pretty awesome so I went back down the escalator in order to grab a shot of it as I passed by. Today went by really well, got to shoot the fashion shows and that was a learning experience for sure. Well, off to bed for the final day of the Bridal Extravaganza!

Day 201 - The Orb of Knowledge

Walking around the GRB (the George R. Brown) Convention Center today, I noticed just how crazy some of their decor and architecture is. It really is a great place to be a photographer, everywhere you look there is something amazing to take a shot of. Sadly, this is one of the the last photographs that was taken with my Canon 40D. While trying to set up for a Time Lapse of the event, I received a Error 99 on my main screen, which in Canon talk means out of commission. I am hoping it is easily fixable and will not take to long, until then I will be shooting with my mothers Canon 30D. Not to much of a difference, but it still feels strange not having my 40D with me when I am shooting. Hopefully, it is just a minor fix.

Day 200 - Bridal Extravaganza

Bridal Extravaganza starts this weekend and if your a bride-to-be it is definitely where you will be this weekend. For the most part I should be snapping photographs of the Brides and their guests. So if your there Saturday or Sunday be on the look out for me. I will be one of the few guys there.

Day 196 - Happy 4th of July

Not a whole lot of time to really get all of this as perfect as possible. I am a little blury, there are some crazy glows around the plants, and the roof is way to bright from the flash going off. Despite all that, I think the final result came out pretty descent and it is always fun to shoot fireworks each year. Hope everybody had a great and safe 4th of July!

Day 195 - The Mighty Wallet

Just recently I purchased a mighty wallet from www.dynomighty.com. This one in particular is known as the "Color Bar Mighty Wallet." They are made of Tyvek® and was designed by Terrence Kelleman. They are a single piece of origami that was incredibly folded into this form. It is tear resistant, water resistant and also made from 25% recycled H.D.P.E which in return makes the whole wallet is completely recyclable. They have many MANY more designs to check out on their website, especially if your looking for an ultra-thin wallet.

Day 194 - Sin City

I have been on a Graphic Novel trip for the last few months. I have been wanting to replicate different themes that are used in different ones and today it's Sin city. I think it turned out okay, but it is the first of a few I plan on doing with a replication of a GN in mind. Well, off to play in the rain!
