Down the Stairs

Getting just about 30 hours until Christmas morning and I have another Christmas picture for ya'll. I really enjoyed this one, mostly because it kind of gives the feeling of coming down the stairs on Christmas morning. This is a 3 shot HDR and I really love how it captures the warmth of Christmas morning. If I don't get a chance to post another before Christmas, I hope everybody is safe and has a Merry Christmas.

Carol of Lights

As some may know, I went to Lubbock this last weekend for the Texas Tech graduation. We got into Lubbock at about 11:30PM and I instantly wanted to get to the campus to see the Carol of Lights again. It has been over a year since I graduated from Texas Tech and this is definitely one part of the school I really miss. Every year in the beginning of December, they hold a ceremony and light up a good portion of the campus with white, red, and orange Christmas lights. It is quite a sight and is something you really have to see.

This photo is one of many I took in my brief visit to the campus last weekend. A view of the science building with the natural sciences building in the background. It is a 3 shot HDR and I really like how it brings out the detail of the bricks and the surrounding environment. Enjoy!

Christmas in Friendswood

Its the week of Christmas and all of my shopping is done. This gives me way to much free time and with that I have been able to take some awesome pictures in the last few days. Just recently I went up to Lubbock for a Texas Tech graduation and was able to take some good pictures of the campus with all of its lights.

This picture was taken at Stevenson Park in Friendswood and the way that they light up the gazebo is really nice. It is a HDR photo, with 3 shots, and I decided to make it black and white because I thought it helped the lights stand out a little more.

New Project

On January 1st, I am going to attempt to complete Project 365. This consists of me taking at least one picture every day for 365 days and posting the one or my favorite of the day to my blog. I heard that it is really hard to finish and that even making it a few weeks was hard, but I thought it would be a fun way to challenge my look at photography and possibly make me better in the process.

There are many different ways groups do this on flickr, but the one group I seem to like the best is http://www.flickr.com/groups/project365/ and their rules are right on the front page. I will be following those to get started. If anybody wants to try this with me let me know so I can keep track of your days. Over at http://www.flickr.com/groups/project_365 they have tons of others who participate in this every day, and I also noticed they post themes every once and a while for you to try out if you run out of ideas.

Just a fun picture I took a while back to share with you:

Oh Christmas Tree

Taking a break from finals preparation and thought I would share a picture that I took this weekend. I had recently read about using a long exposure time and zooming into/away from your subject while the shutter is still open. So while at my friend Matt's, I decided to give this technique a try.

I was really surprised how well the results turned out, especially since I was trying this without a tripod to help keep it steady. The specs for this are 1/4 sec, ISO 800, 22mm, and f/ 5.6

Fall Leaf

Its a very cold and rainy first day of December. The cold is very nice, but the rain I could do without. It makes going outside not worth it at all, if it would just dip below 30 maybe some snow would be possible. Anyway, just outside my front door is a small tree that I park my truck next to and it has been showing the colors of fall since possibly October.

Just the other day, the colors were really beginning to show really well and I pulled out my camera and started shooting. This one is one of my favorites, especially with the way the veins of the leaf showing off the small details.

If you ever get a chance go by UHCL and on the 2nd floor you can find one of my photographs on display until the 22nd of December. I was part of an Aids Awareness art contest and yesterday they put up all of the pieces for display.
