Day 119 - May I Present To You

Today, I got a very special treat in the mail, my brand new Holga 120N! YaY! If you have not heard of Holga cameras, there is a really good reason. The quality on these cameras is very poor and that is exactly why I bought one. For the most part, they are known for lomography, which is a unique style of photographs that can be achieved through cheap cameras that allow light in when it is not supposed to.

Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but as soon as I finish taking these first two rolls of film (yes its a film camera) I will be sure to post those on here as well. Then you will see what kind of shots this kind of camera is able to produce.

Day 118 - Where's Your Head At?

Today's photo originally started out with my tracing my friend Matt with a flashlight, while he laid on the ground. I have seen people do this before on various photo's, but for some reason his head failed to appear in the photograph. Either way, the title comes from the song "Where's Your Head At?" by Basement Jaxx and I feel it fits very well with this photograph, as well as other things going on with myself.

Also, if you haven't had a chance to check out www.greggriffithdeisgns.com go do it now! Let me know what you think about it, whether its positive or negative I want to know. As for now, I am off to bed, enjoy!

Day 117 - The Wall

Tonights picture is again inspired by Dustin Diaz, but unlike him I do not have any form of external flash. So instead I chose to use a LED flashlight that I was going to use for more light painting. I think it worked really well considering the circumstances.

Well, I can happily announce that my website is complete and has gone public!!! You can find it at www.greggriffithdesigns.com Go check it out and let me know what you think of it.

Day 115 - The Birdhouse

There is a very heavy influence on this photo and he can be found right here on flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/polvero/. Dustin Diaz is a photographer I found right as I was starting my 365 project and instantly loved his style. I know a major part of his style I enjoy is the bokeh that he adds to all of his photos and I myself love to add as much bokeh whenever possible. His composition is also very interesting. As I might have mentioned before, photographs that are always taken perfectly parallel and straight get boring very quickly, most of Dustin's photos are at an angle, which makes them much more appealing to me.

Another interesting part of his photographs is how he uses black lines on both the top and bottom of the photograph. They always remain in a square and while I chose not to keep mine in a square I still feel like it captures the same feelings. The final part of his photographs that I enjoyed was the use of text within the photograph. He never uses the title bar to name his photos during his 365 project, but it seems he uses text within the photograph as his title.

While this is just me messing around with this, I feel like I could really turn a whole series into this. It might help me get out of the slump I seem to have gotten myself in. This does take a little more post-processing work than most of my photographs I have been doing, but at the same time I believe it will help turn out better quality photos in the end.

Day 110 - Night Light

Decided to go out and try out this fancy LED light that I got for Easter this year along with some long exposures. The idea came to me after reading an article about Hennessy's new ad campaign done by Atton Conrad.

You can see the full article here:

strobist.blogspot.com/2010/04/light-fare-at-bar.html

Mine isn't quite as professional, considering I have light behind me, I would much rather have had pitch black. That is just way to hard to come around. I still like the way it came out, especially with the little silhouette of myself you can barley notice just off center on the right.

Go by Atton Conrad's website and see more of his work, I found his portfolio very interesting.

Day 109 - Wrapping Gifts

Tomorrow is my little sisters birthday and like many times gifts are involved, I am the one who wraps them. Using the zoom in effect is always fun to try and I really like how this one came out. Enjoy!

Day 104 - So Many Clones

Clone pictures, as many already probably know, are one of my favorite photoshop things to do. Whats even better is that it also seems to be my friends favorite thing to do when we are bored on any particular day and I have my tripod with me. So courtesy of Matt, TJ and Matt we have today's photo of them going bananas on the jungle gym just near Matts house. Enjoy!

Day 103 - Friendswood LAX

I went out and photographed Friendswood lacrosse today. I am going to go ahead and be honest, I have never seen and/or payed attention to anything lacrosse. So when I went out to try and shoot the game today I really had no idea what was going on at all. The game is very fast paced and really reminds me of a combination of hockey, soccer and football all scrambled up into one.

Photographing it is a different story too, since I did not know what was happening I really was not sure what action I should be catching. So I went very cliché and just did a face off photo for todays game. Even though I really had no idea what I was photographing, it was still fun to experience and try out a new sport. I mean, thats why I am doing all this isn't it? To learn?

Day 101 - Galveston County Fair

Today my sister competed in a pig show with her pig Arnold. She finished in 6th place of her group and that is good enough to enter him in an auction for scholarship money.

Besides it being full of carnies and hillbillies the entire fair was not exactly photographer friendly. There were tons of people to fight for a spot and the lighting was just plain awful. The mix of blue and white lights is definitely not my ideal lighting setup.

Day 100 - Ladybird Gardens

Photo 100...YAY. I have officially hit he triple digits. Only have 265 more to go and that is still a long ways of way. Overall I think it is still going very well and I cant wait to see what pictures come in the future. Today is a picture from Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center and I can tell you that I was not the only photographer there. I took many HDRs that I can not wait to get uploaded to my PC back home in Houston, just so I can see how they turned out.

I hope everybody has enjoyed the first 100 pictures and that you keep enjoying them as they keep coming.

What eye do you photograph with?

I was browsing around my favorite photo blogs when an article caught my eye. What eye do you use to look through your view finder in order to take a photograph? Well according to Digital Photography School, a majority of their readers use their right eye apposed to using their left. They surveyed over 13,000 of their readers (one of which was me!) and a whopping 57% said that they use their right eye to photograph, while only 37% used their left eye, and 7% were prone to using both.

Now for myself, I actually use my left eye a good 99.9% of the time when I am photographing. Once I really got to thinking about it, I thought in my head that it would be my right. I am right handed at just about everything I do, the few times I shot a gun it was aimed using my right eye, but with photography my left seems to have taken over.

Now with sports, especially fast paced ones such as football, I will actually keep both eyes open. My left will be going through the viewfinder, while my right is looking around to make sure I am not about to get ran over.

What do you think about all this? Are you with the majority and photograph with your right eye or are you in the minority and use just the left? Let me know I am very curious to see what other people think of this.

Day 93 - The B's

Catherine is in town and over at her parents house they have these beautiful Blue Bonnets growing outside. So while over there today I decided to bring my camera and capture a few of these. I had no idea that Blue Bonnets were such a bee favorite. They were all over and made out for some great photos as well.
