Day 170 - The Blur

Day 2 of my self portrait for a month and this time I definitely made time to go out and have some fun. It was not very easy to do, since I have no wireless trigger, I had to set it on auto fire and run a way while it was constantly shooting. This means I have 6-10 actual pictures of myself while the other 200 or so are of the street behind me. Since it was getting dark out, I had to resolve to shooting at a lower shutter speed. At first I thought I wanted it to be crisp, but when I zoomed in on the LCD I saw a little motion blur and thought it was perfect.

Well, I hope your enjoying my 2nd picture of myself and don't forget to catch the World Cup opening ceremonies tomorrow. Should be awesome!

Day 122 - Butler Park

Sorry for the long delay on posting pictures, but I had a few technical difficulties while in Austin this last weekend. Yes, I was still taking pictures, but I had forgot to bring my transfer cord so I could upload them to the laptop. Just one of those lessons you only need to learn once.

Anyway, like always in Austin, we went on a walk throughout the city and happened to stumble upon a small 9 hole golf course known as, Butler Park Pitch and Putt. All holes, but one, are no longer than 100 yards and you only need to bring 2-3 clubs and your putter with you. It seems like a perfect way to practice one's short game when you don't want to pay the big bucks for a fancy golf course. Also throughout this walk I was using my new Holga camera and those pictures should be in within the week. Hopefully they turn out well.

Day 103 - Friendswood LAX

I went out and photographed Friendswood lacrosse today. I am going to go ahead and be honest, I have never seen and/or payed attention to anything lacrosse. So when I went out to try and shoot the game today I really had no idea what was going on at all. The game is very fast paced and really reminds me of a combination of hockey, soccer and football all scrambled up into one.

Photographing it is a different story too, since I did not know what was happening I really was not sure what action I should be catching. So I went very cliché and just did a face off photo for todays game. Even though I really had no idea what I was photographing, it was still fun to experience and try out a new sport. I mean, thats why I am doing all this isn't it? To learn?

Day 21 - Old School Hobby

Remember back in the days when your hobbies consisted of saving your pennies to buy that pack of baseball cards? If only photography was as cheap of a hobby as that.

Three weeks have passed and many photos have been taken. Some that are good and others that I feel could be better if I had taken the time. At the end of the month I am going to find my favorite and least favorite and post them to my blog. There was an obvious favorite by hits, but my favorite was not this one.

Friday Night Lights

On Friday, I was able to get down on the field and shoot a Texas high school football playoff game between Friendswood and Lamar Consolidated. I have never shot sports at any level besides my little brother and for the most part I cant say I was happy with everything that I took. At about half time the auto-focus on my lens stopped working and it showed me how nice it was to really have it when its around.

Learning to photograph sports is something that I have been wanting to learn to do and I figure the best place to learn is at my local high school. It will definitely be a learning experience and hopefully with time I will be able to provide better pictures. All of these were taken with my Canon 40D on Manual Settings and a Sigma 70-200mm @ f/2.8 and have been cropped.

I tried out my 40Ds ISO at 3200 on this shot and it turned out to be way to noisy.

One of the hardest lessons I learned Friday was about lighting. Shooting from the endzone provides very poor lighting and half the time you can't even see the players faces.

In Photoshop I went ahead an added a little vignetting to see if it helped give the picture anything extra.
